"I'm Thinking of Ending Things" begins normally enough. A young man (Jesse Plemons) drives his girlfriend (Jessie Buckley) to meet his parents in a distant town. During the drive, the woman considers breaking up. Once there, the parents manage to time shift between their older and younger selves, while the action cuts to the local high school where a janitor mops the floors. The story morphs from one thing to another into metaphor and ultimately a ballet. Charlie Kaufman wrote the screenplay and directs. His career has produced a series of delightful head scratchers including Being John Malkovich, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. So you say you're tired of the usual stuff, try this.
