Act of Valor Review - 3 Stars
“Act of Valor” takes the action movie to a new place, with a story about Navy SEALs starring actually Navy personnel chasing down actions portraying terrorists. The SEALs feel very comfortable and certain add believability as they bark commands and discuss technology. They sound a little awkward when asked to deliver the stand movie dialog, but thankfully the filmmakers avoid that trap as much as possible. The story begins with the kidnapping of a Mexican doctor working in Central America and her torture. The government calls in the SEALs to recuse her and during the rescue they uncover a terrorist plot which ultimately leads them to a full scale shoot out with a Mexican cartel protecting the bad guys as they attempt to cross the border. “Act of Valor” reminds me of “the Hurt Locker” with this unusual combination of reality and fiction. I found it fascinating to watch. Does it deliver what it promises? Military loving action movie. Is it entertaining? The reality of the SEALs really works and the action speaks for itself. Is it worth the price of admission? For action war movie fans.
