I downloaded Kajillionaire on Amazon Prime for $5.99 and wow! What a revelation. Richard Jenkins and an unrecognizable Debra Winger play grifters training their twenty six year old daughter Even Rachel Wood in the fine art of stealing and conning. During a scheme involving a round trip flight to New York, the group meet fellow con Gina Rodriguez. The newcomer shifts the balance in a story that never goes where you expect. Kajillionaire mines an entire new aspect of Even Rachel Wood. Director Miranda July never explains, she just shows us the character's odd world and leaves the rest to us. This is the kind of oddball movie you might have stumbled into at Landmark or the Avalon or a favorite independent theater. I doubt it received much attention, but it deserves yours. Kajillionaire reminds me why I love the movies.
