Ad Astra Review - 3 Stars

"Ad Astra" presents Brad Pitt in a series of quiet, compelling space adventures, as a son searching for his father. The conclusion sputters, but it sure looks great. 3 stars, rated PG-13.
"Ad Astra" creates a stunning space adventure. Brad Pitt plays Roy McBride, son of a space martyr thought to be long dead, played by Tommy Lee Jones. The opening segment establishes Pitt's ability to remain cool under fire. Falling off a sky high antenna, he rights himself and manages to wrench shut an electrical circuit, averting disaster.  His demeanor convinces the powers that be, to assign him a secret mission. His father may be alive and hold the key to a series of jolts threatening Earth. Go into space and find him. The design of "Ad Astra" reminds me of some of the great space adventures, specifically "2001: A Space Odyssey." The search of a son for his father adds poignancy. The adventure held my attention. The conclusion sputters. Even in space, getting there is twice the fun.
