Les Misérables Review - 3 Stars

Director Tom Hooper opens up the beloved musical “Les Miserables” in a beautiful adaptation.  Hugh Jackman plays Jean Valjean, the nobleman running from his past, with Russell Crowe his pursuer.  Anne Hathaway gets the show’s big number and makes a bid for an Oscar nomination.  Other singer/actors include Amanda Seyfried, Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen.  Not all the actors sing beautifully but they sing well enough.  The story comes across easy to follow and most of all the movie looks grand, playing out this epic story of 17th century France on the streets of Paris.  If you love the musical you’ll love the movie.  Does it deliver what it promises?  Big screen big adaptation of beloved novel and musical.  Is it entertaining?  Very much.  It is worth the price of admission?  Especially for fans of the musical.
