Starbuck Review - 3½ Stars

This French-Canadian comedy subtitled in French will delight the few who make the effort to see it.  The slacker/hero of the story begins the film in debt.  He discovers an easy way out:  a sperm bank will pay him for his sperm.  So he takes advantage of the easy money.  Eighteen years pass and suddenly a lawyer arrives.  The lab has made a mistake and he has fathered 533 children.  “Starbuck” tells its story with genuine humor and sweetness.  The revelation comes, of course, as our hero prepares to settle down and marry his now pregnant girlfriend.  The American remake is on the way, starring Vince Vaughn.  I have a feeling this original is far far better.  Does it deliver what it promises?  Unconventional comedy  Is it entertaining?  Very very funny.  Is it worth the price of admission?  One of the year’s best comedies.
