The Perks of Being a Wallflower Review - 3 Stars

Those who read this novel love it, and I suspect they will love this movie version as well.  Logan Lerman begins his freshman year in high school with a cloud over his head—a hospitalization we assume that follows a suicide attempt—just the kind of thing to make kids whisper about you.   The shy freshman meets senior student Emma Watson (in her new life beyond Harry Potter) and her step brother Ezra Miller (best known as the creepy kid in “We Need to Talk about Kevin.”  The three become fast friends and Logan develops a crush on Emma, which goes terribly wrong in the way only high school crushes can.  “Wallflower” captures a real sense of high school life and humiliation.  The story throws a knockout punch toward the end, a plot twist few will see coming.   Does it deliver what it promises?  Good drama and engrossing story.  Is it entertaining?  Holds your attention and captures a little bit of your heart.  Is it worth the price of admission?  Better than going back to high school.
