Sleepwalk with Me Review - 3½ Stars

Watch this movie and you will almost certainly turn into a fan of comic Mike Birbiglia.  As the story opens we find Mike tending bar in a comedy club dreaming about stand up success.  At home he lives with beautiful Lauren Ambrose who longs to marry him.  Bowing to pressure from family and friends he finally reluctantly pops the question just as he begins life on the road trying out his act, which bombs mostly.  But then he hits on talking about real things, including his trouble sleeping and his uncontrollable habit of sleepwalking as he acts out his dreams.  This sounds like a funny bit until some serious damage late in the story finally get Mike’s attention.  Birbiglia has a wonderful way of talking to the camera, bringing us into his life.  “Sleepwalk with Me” also captures the cruddy life of a comic on the road barely making ends meet.  Some of you know Birbiglia from NPR’s “This American Life”.  A few of you might even have seen the one man off Broadway show that inspired the movie.  Either way, Birbiglia has created a funny shocking interesting compelling and likable ninety minutes.  I can’t wait to see what he does next.   Does it deliver what it promises?  Funny realistic personal story.  Is it entertaining?  Very likable.  Is it worth the price of admission?  For sure!
