Magic Mike Review - 2.5 Stars

Channing Tatum continues his progress as an actor—almost everyone agrees he gets better with each movie.  “Magic Mike” comes from Channing’s experience working as a male stripper.  In this story he recruits Alex Pettyfer as a gofer in a Tampa strip club.  Soon Alex gets on stage and joins the show.  Meanwhile, Tatum meets Pettyfer’s sister played by Cody Horn, who spends most of the movie disapproving her brother and Channing.  Matthew McConaughey goes over the top even for him as the blustery egomaniacal owner of the strip club who plans a move to the big time of Miami.  “Magic Mike” borrows heavily from the plot of ‘Showgirls” — considered one of the worst movies ever made. It’s better than “Showgirls” particularly because of the production numbers, but the plot doesn’t offer much new or different.  Does it deliver what it promises?  Guys stripping.  Is it entertaining?  Mixed.  Is it worth the price of admission?  Ladies Night.
